My Approach
I’m a warm, compassionate, and active therapist, who can flexibly adapt to meet you where you are. There will be times in your life when you’re just trying to make it from week to week. At other times, you’ll want to build interpersonal skills, develop self awareness, or change old habits. I respect and value wherever you are in the process. I believe the quality of the client-therapist relationship to a large degree determines the quality of the therapy. I take very seriously the responsibility of being a reliable and trustworthy influence in my clients’ lives. I check in with you about your experience with the therapy, knowing your experience is extremely important.
My Philosophy
So much of being a therapist is about knowing how to really listen, and to listen well. This means being able to hear you without judgment. It means conveying that I can hear the depths of profound pain or anxiety without becoming swept away by it. I reflect deeply on what I’m being told in this privileged conversation and share these reflections with you.
We can think of therapy as the alleviation of symptoms and suffering, or as the development of insight and self awareness that ultimately leads to character change. However, all of this starts with feeling truly heard, understood, and valued. When we are listened to in this way, we come to realize that even the most painful experiences have value. Pain shapes who we are. Therapy helps us look at how our pain is shaping us, and makes this a conscious, purposeful process in alignment with our deepest goals and values.
